A state-wise comparison Of the population served each SRTC bus: 2012-13

According to the ministry of road transport and highway's report on the performance of state road transport undertakings (SRTUs) for 2012-13, over 25,000 crore passengers used these government-owned buses. The 38 SRTUs that reported their financial performance had a fleet strength of 1.4 lakh vehicles operated by over 7 lakh employees. The comparison of availability of SRTU-run buses in major states shows that the southern part of the country easily outclasses the north. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa along with Delhi and Himachal Pradesh have a far greater availability of these buses than Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam and Uttar Pradesh. In Bihar, there is just one SRTU bus per 2.5 lakh people.
