Established in 1916, the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) has been exploring, surveying and studying animals across the country since. Most of the animals it newly discovered fall in the category of lower invertebrates, and include insects, leeches and snails. India is a part of the Like Minded Megadiverse Countries formed in Cancun in 2002, a grouping of countries with expansive biodiversity. Developing countries hold more than 70% of the world's biodiversity
