Central Samman Pension or Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Scheme started on July 31, 1980. Prior to this scheme, pension was given only to those freedom fighters or families of freedom fighters in need of financial assistance. From 1980 onwards, pension scheme was extended to all freedom fighters as a token of samman (respect). Prior to this scheme, pension was given only to those freedom fighters or families of freedom fighters in need of financial assistance. From 1980 onwards, pension scheme was extended to all freedom fighters as a token of samman (respect).
