Family and early life

Daughter of late Norman Putsure, NBDA team leader/secretary social welfare, and Akruzo Putsure, former supervisor at Nagaland Secretariat, Seyie Putsure, with an economics degree from Massachusetts, USA, decided to drop everything and follow her dream of grand architecture and interiors by moving to Los Angeles and enrolled at UCLA’s Interior Design Program.

Eldest among the two siblings Asieu Putsure and Saneinuo Putsure, Seyie is currently based in California married to an American attorney.

Both of her parents appreciated architecture and design, and shared that interest with us (their children) from a young age. Any time they travelled, one of their favorite activities was to visit distinguished neighborhoods to breathe in opulent homes. They would admire the architecture, colors and detail, and talk about how they can incorporate some of those ideas into their own home. Her dad, being innately artistic, was especially interested in fine arts and encouraged us to be creative. He used to sketch and also carve on different medium when they were young. One time, She remember seeing some beautiful Christmas ornaments in a magazine which She wanted for their tree. Back then, there was very limited product and décor available in Nagaland, so her dad and She decided to make their own. They bought cheap plastic balls and he carved candy cane shapes out of foam core, which She covered with satin ribbons. All of these different experiences fueled her passion for architecture, arts and creativity from a young.

Education

Seyie did her schooling from Kohima English School (since renamed Mezhiir Higher Secondary School) and was a topper of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination.

She then went to Bangalore to pursue her secondary education from Mount Carmel College.

After graduating from college in Massachusetts with a degree in Economics, She moved to New York City (without a job) because She wanted to be in the fashion industry. After a couple of months of relentless job searching, She was accepted to a three-month internship program at Saks Fifth Avenue (one of the biggest luxury department stores in US.) That opened doors for her in her fashion career. After that, She went on to be an Assistant Buyer with the same company, and then moved on to Chanel and then Dolce & Gabbana as a business executive. It was very exciting and glamorous because She travelled to Paris every other month, attended runway shows and wore couture to work. However, She was not fully satisfied because what She really wanted to do was to be on the creative end. After four years, She decided to pursue that dream – She enrolled at the Interior Design program at UCLA Extension and moved to Los Angeles.

UCLA Extension’s Professional Interior Design program is a two and half year intensive program, so it definitely provided her with all the technical skills that She have now. The program is very reputable and has relationships with many top design and architectural firms in Los Angeles, and hence connected her with jobs and internships at firms that helped polish her interior design skills early in her career.

Career

She has racked up an impressive resume that includes working as an executive for Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel giving her the opportunity to work alongside some of the world’s finest fashion designers.

In 2007, Seyie Putsure ventured out and founded ‘Seyie Design’. Ever since, her body of work has grown internationally to include retail boutiques, corporate office spaces, high-end salons, boutique bakeries, lounges and homes.

Her works have been featured in Elle, Vogue, DDI, Los Angeles Magazine and Audrey Magazine. ‘Seyie Design’ is undoubtedly a household name as her clientele include the crème de la crème of Hollywood society.

In February 2012, she was selected as the exclusive interior designer for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Official Talent Gift Lounge.

Having received rave reviews for her work in this event, Grammy officials have decided to retain her again for the 55th Grammy Awards in 2013.

‘Seyie Design’ is a one-of-a-kind design company that brings fashion and function into residential and retail interiors. Seyie focuses on perfection and a hands-on approach with her clients.

Her style

Understanding an individual’s personal style or a company’s brand image, and their unique lifestyle or practical business needs, Seyie works directly with clients on all levels to discover the best harmony for spaces from concept to execution. She balances between fashionable interiors that capture the essence of the individual or company, and functional spaces that support lifestyle or promote retail profitability. Seyie creates environments that evoke specific emotional responses for clients; spaces that are filled with character and soul while enhancing their life or business.

As an interior designer, She firmly believe that architecture should be inviting, comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and enhance one’s life. Any grand gesture in design and architecture should have a purpose, to enhance its beauty while being cognizant of its residents. She would say this consciousness is where She draw a line between architectural opulence and artistic grandiosity. To her, comfort is a very important component of luxury. In addition to the quality of work, fine craftsmanship, or material used in a home, it is not luxurious if it is not comfortable. Personalization is a very important part of her work. It is about really understanding the DNA of her client and their taste and expressing that in her design for them, so it is truly theirs and unique to them. Fashionable function is about creating aesthetically pleasing space, while always making sure that the space is functional and enhances the life or business of her clients.

She polished her design skills working with esteemed firms including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Hirsch Bedner Associates, designing some of the most luxurious homes in Los Angeles and top hotels worldwide.

Current work

She is currently working on various projects - a couple of private residences for clients in the entertainment and finance industry, a collaboration with a local design build firm designing branded interiors and creating special experiences for restaurants as well as medical spas. A current project that is very near and dear to her heart is a museum for the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency. This agency was spearheaded and developed by her dad and was his passion. He and She talked in depth about his vision for this museum, which will be the core of the concept. This place will be engaging, educational and very special

Seyie is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers and a member of the Costume Council at Lacma. She supports various non-profit organizations including Step Up Women’s Network and In True Fashion. She frequently travels to Europe and Asia, keeping current on the latest in local and international design trends and theory.
