The 54 most popular Hindi-Urdu songs of 1987
Two notes about the credits
i) Who sang the song De de, didi, football vaapis hamari (aka Parody song aka Na maangooñ) for the film Mr. India ? A usually reliable book says: Kavita Krishnamurthy. However, this has to be wrong because there is a male voice, too. Indeed, there is more than just one male and one female voice. Hindi Geet Mala credits Shabbir Kumar and Anuradha Paudwal. All YouTube credits say exactly the same. The film’s credits are of no use because they do not list the singers. The T-Series site yields absolutely no information. Therefore, firstly, Indpaedia agrees with Hindi Geet Mala that Shabbir Kumar and Anuradha Paudwal sang the song. Since different female voices sang for the children and SriDevi, it is likely that Kavita Krishnamurthy, too, sang the song.
ii) Who wrote the song Terha-merha main for the film Jalwa ? A usually reliable website credits the music, lyrics and singing all to Remo Fernandes. A usually reliable book is silent. The film’s ‘front’ credits attribute the music of only the song ‘Dekho’ to Remo, and the rest to Anand-Milind. Who are we to disagree with a primary source as irrefutable as the film’s credit titles? It stands to reason that even Pack That Smack would have been penned and composed by Remo, as a usually reliable website suggests and many websites agree. However, a film’s credit titles overrule mere hunches. Therefore, we are attributing the music of Terha-merha main to Anand-Milind. And the lyrics? The film’s end-credits attribute the lyrics to Pandit Narendra Sharma, Gulshan Bawra, Sameer and Remo. This, unfortunately, leaves us no wiser about individual songs. We are leaving that column blank.
Rare songs
All songs marked ??? have been included on the exclusive authority of Prof. Anil Bhargava, with no additional verifications, despite several Google and YouTube searches.
i) Aankhein hain sharab, wallah-wallah, honth hain gulab: Indpaedia has not been able to trace this song. On the album Humnashin sung by Pankaj Udhas we could only find Aankhein hain ya jaam e sharaab.
ii) Kharhi Gopiyañ yeh shikayat lâyeeñ. Indpaedia has not been able to trace this song. On Bhajan Rath vol.1 (1987) by Anoop Jalota we could only find Koi Gopi Aayi.
iii) Jeena yooñ hee hota hai from the album Dhadkan sung by Peenaz Masani. After Google, YouTube and other searches, mainly of MP3 sites, failed to throw up this phrase Indpaedia got hold of the jacket of a vinyl black disc of Dhadkan. There was no such track. We heard most of the songs available but could not find this phrase.
iv) Indpaedia also got hold of the jacket of the album Aah! Alisha sung by Alisha Chinai. There was no track with the title Dil diwana, though this phrase might have occurred within one the songs.

A song with a classical background
Raags in songs
Few film songs that have a root in Indian classical music remain faithful to a raag throughout their length. Indpaedia volunteers have sometimes mentioned raags even when there is merely a hint of that raag in a song. (‘Raag’ is frequently spelt ‘raga,’ while ‘taal’ is also spelt ‘tal.’)
Wherever a taal has been mentioned, it is the one verified by ChandraKantha.com, and sometimes the raags, too.
